my place in space

We are no different

than the sun and the moon

so high up in the sky.

You bring things to life

while warming my skin,

shining brighter than I ever could.

And I, the moon,

hide behind clouds

shyly emitting a soft light

as the world falls asleep.

It is destiny’s cruel form of torture

to make me fall in love with you

the unreachable sun

but every night as I begin

to climb the stars to my place in space

I see you paint the sky

with shades of pinks, oranges, and reds

never failing

to take my breath away.
